Why is this course relevant or important? | - The course will enable schools to develop a strong approach to teaching writing by identifying the essential skills for writing underpinned by good progression and effective assessment
- All sessions will be evidence informed and based on the principles of how pupils learn.

This course will include: | Session 1 - Expectations in writing at the expected standard and greater depth for all year groups
- Providing effective opportunities for writing based on good identification of audience and purpose
- The grammar skills for writing
- Practical teaching strategies
- The importance of practice
Session 2 - Gap task reflection and evaluation
- Further teaching strategies with a focus on coherence
- A whole school approach to assessing writing
- Sharing a training package to use in school
Session 3 - Sharing and evaluating pupils’ writing
- Using pupils’ writing to provide feedback and to identify next steps
- Determining what constitutes good evidence of writing

Who is it for? | English subject leads and teachers in KS1 and KS2 Ideally, two teachers per school who are able to lead improvement in school |

Format: | Three extended half day sessions There will be a gap task between session 1 and session 2 Teachers will be provided with training materials to share in school after session 2 |
