Essential Questions:

• How do you ensure that all potential GDS writers are developed and challenged throughout Key Stage 2?
• How do you ensure that these pupils still enjoy writing?
• How do you develop a whole key stage approach to developing and assessing greater depth writing?

Why is this course relevant or important?

      The Teacher Assessment Framework identifies some key features of greater depth writing at the end of key stage 2. This day’s training will enable teachers to unpick the framework statements and to consider strategies which will enable pupils to achieve them throughout KS2.

This course will advance your understanding of:

• Strategies for planning and developing writing based on identification of audience and purposes
• Ways of ensuring that writers are controlling different registers
• Key features of formal and informal writing
• Links with reading and how to encourage pupils to draw on their reading in their writing
• Developing wider vocabulary and grammar knowledge
• The use of punctuation to enhance meaning and avoid ambiguity

You will take away from the course:

      A variety of strategies for all teachers to employ to ensure a whole school approach to developing GDS writers.
