Education Welfare Service updates for 23/24

Education Welfare Service updates for 23/24

Reintegration and Reduced/Part Time Timetables - Important to do...!
With renewed focus on these support measures for building time back in school we require you to complete the Google form for all children currently subject to a reduced timetable, so that we can establish the exact number of children not in school full time. We will be reporting this to the DfE and also have FOI requests frequently.
We have updated the Protocol on the Leadership Update Website.
The form for all your children on a reduced timetable is here - Reintegration and Reduced/PartTime Timetables and can be found on the Leadership Update Website
Please complete this task by 30th September and then update as necessary.

Children Missing Education
We have a new Children Missing education Coordinator (Nico Auckbur) who is leading on CME and will be your first point of contact. The CME policy can also be found on the EWS section of the Leadership update website and here is the link to the Child Missing from Education Referral form .

Elective Home Education.
Harmit Thiara has built the service magnificently over the past year with dramatically increased numbers. She has introduced coffee mornings for EHE families and built really positive relationships with all stakeholders. It is so important to alert her if you have any parents that are considering EHE. The Link for the EHE is also on the Leadership Update Website.

New Attendance Codes.
I sent out a cheat sheet with the new codes on. If in doubt, go back to the guidance and if there is a code that does not fit - that is when Attendance alarm bells ring and something is amiss. Give your allocated EWO a call. Here is a Link to the Attendance Codes from September 2024 - but do always look at the guidance for more in depth information.

Home Visits
As requested from a number of schools, I have developed a Home Visit policy that schools can use as we can no longer state that it is something that schools never do. If you need further information around these checks and the protocol. It is ion the Home visit policy section of the Leadership Update Website

Intervention / Reintegration plan.
Alot of schools have requested a proforma for a reintegration or intervention plan. Normally I would say that the plan needs to be bespoke for the needs of the child, family and school but understand it is easier when you have something to base it upon. So, we have uploaded a blank form for an Intervention Plan that you can adapt to be a reintegration plan etc. It is on the SEMH Service page (SEMH Page) It is also on the EWS page.

Network Meetings.
These Attendance Lead Network meetings have been very well attended and the feedback positive. So they will be continuing every full term, to share best practice, updates and information from stakeholders including DfE, Ofsted and the LA. The next one will be on 19th November at 3.30pm I will send invites and confirm presenters closer to the day.

Example Attendance letters
These have been updated to reflect the new guidance and to include ERSA flyer. Link here

Fixed Penalty Notices and Legal Intervention
With the changes to FPN (esp for absences around holidays) we have changed the protocol. We now have one Google form regarding an FPN request for an unauthorised term time absence following a holiday request. This can be found using the new Fixed Penalty Notice form. For other legal intervention including; new Notice to Improve (which replaces the 15day warning), Attendance Contract, Education Supervision Order and Prosecution you will need to discuss and agree with your allocated EWO and then complete the new Legal Intervention Request form. You will need to upload all relevant evidence to support the legal process. Support, as always, will be accessible through your allocated EWO. This Legal Intervention Request form will go live within the first month of the Autumn Term.
