Ofsted Headteachers Newsletter

A message from Lee Owston - HMI, National Director, Education

Welcome to our latest edition of Ofsted’s newsletter for headteachers and school leaders.

It is now over a term since inspections started under our renewed inspection framework and, since I last wrote to you, the first report cards have been published.

It’s been really pleasing to hear from those of you who have been inspected, and to hear that you are finding it a positive, collaborative and transparent experience. You will have heard me say before that our intention was to make inspection ‘look and feel different’, so feedback of this kind, that inspection and the relationship with inspectors feels better, helps us to recognise what is working well in the earliest stages of implementation.

However, I am far from complacent, and we will continue to listen and learn from everyone’s inspection experience so that we can continue to shape and refine the framework and methodology.

For those of you yet to be inspected, we know there are some questions and clarifications you want and we have created an FAQ blog, which we continually update, to address those questions that are asked the most. You will find the link to that blog, as well as other useful information in this newsletter.

I know the spring term will have been busy for you and your teams and so, as we approach the Easter Holiday, I want to wish you and everyone in your schools a restful break.

Thank you for all the hard work you are doing for the children in your care. They remain at the heart of everything all of us do.
