A message from Lee Owston - HMI, National Director, Education

Hello,

Welcome to the latest edition of Ofsted’s newsletter for headteachers and school leaders. I hope you and your teams all had a refreshing summer break and that the new term has started well.

You may have seen news this morning covering our announcement about the renewed framework for education inspections, beginning in November.

I’ve put details and links in this newsletter. And if you want to know more, do sign up for one of the many webinars we are putting on to speak directly to you before routine inspections return in November.

The changes we are introducing do three things. We want them to help raise standards for children – particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. We want to provide parents with more detail through our new-look report cards. And of course, we want inspections to be fair to schools, colleges and nurseries and the brilliant professionals who work in them. Our new methodology, in particular, promotes greater collaborative working, an understanding of the context in which you all work and will seek to celebrate all of your successes, as well as validate the priorities you have set for further improvement.

I hope you can find some time to look at the material we’ve published today. As well as the consultation response, we’ve published all the inspection guides and toolkits we’ll be using from November, as well as videos and further information.

I hope you have a smooth and successful start to term and I wish you well for the months ahead.
