Updated Relationship and Sex Education Guidance
Revised Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education Guidance
The DfE has released updated Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education Guidance which becomes statutory in September 2026. Schools will need to think about the changes and consult with parents (there is information in the guidance about how schools might do this) as well as revise their policy and curriculum accordingly.
The changes include:
- Primaries are encouraged to teach about same-sex parents.
- Greater emphasis on misogyny
- There is flexibility for primaries to teach about sexual imagery.
- Suicide prevention lessons when pupils are ready
- Deep fakes, gambling and virginity testing have been added.
We are looking at putting on training for governors.
Oak Academy has published some new resources to support the teaching of RSHE alongside the new guidance.
